Top Best smartphone reviews of 2017

Image
Being a mobile tech reviewer definitely has its perks. Shiny new devices are great and all, but still, at the end of the day, the most gratifying thing is to see our work actually help out readers and eager buyers navigate the vast and often confusing smartphone market. 2017 was a really interesting year, with many great announcements and more than one interesting trend set in motion and ready to unfold in 2018. Before CES kicks off and draws our collective attention to the future of mobile, what better time to sift through the top ten reviews of 2017, as rated by your interest. Starting from the top of the list, it's clear that Samsung had yet another strong year in the business. Not only is the Korean giant getting the lion's share of sales in most markets, but it is also drawing ever-growing amounts of attention towards its industry-leading and trend-setting designs. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, in particular, really shook thinks up vigorously, with their bold Infinity Dis...

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Price, Features And Full Specification

Image
Xiaomi Redmi 5 sounds like a successor to the  Redmi 4 , but it actually comes as a vanilla version of the Redmi 5 Plus that is essentially the follow-up of the  Redmi Note 4 . The name game might not be strong with Xiaomi, but the device appears to have everything you would expect from a 2017 phone in the affordable segment - an octa-core chipset, 18:9 screen and friendly user interface. The  Redmi 5  feels nice in hand, mostly due to its tall design. Texting one-handed is quite comfortable, especially when you have extra room for the keyboard. Xiaomi provides a transparent case with the retail package, but with a small nuisance - the camera still on the back protrudes a bit and you might have issues with it in the long run. Some Xiaomi competitors like vivo and Oppo already decided to follow the trend of facial recognition for unlocking the device, but the Redmi 5 sticks to one security option - a traditional fingerprint scanner on the back, right be...

Samsung provides millions of OLED screens for Apple next year

Image
Samsung is known for its excellent OLED displays. In case of not knowing, Samsung also provides Apple with the screens for the iPhone X. OLED panels are the best on the market and Apple wants to continue to dominate in this area. For this reason, Samsung will provide Apple with 180 million to 200 million flexible OLED panels by 2018, according to industry sources. These numbers are about four times more than the 50 million panels that Samsung has already provided to Apple. Since each panel is priced at $ 110, we can assume that Samsung will make a profit of $ 19.8- $ 22 billion just by providing these screens to Apple. While this is good news for Samsung right away, this may not last. A few months ago it was announced that Apple and LG were collaborating on a device with a flexible OLED screen planned for 2020. Even if Samsung lose to LG in this field, it will still profit from the sale of iPhones, since the brand provides several components for the device ...

Some Galaxy Note 8 will not charge after the battery reaches 0%

Image
After the problems with Note 7 last year, Samsung needed something that would cleanse its image and decided to use the Galaxy Note 8 this year for that very reason. The smartphone featured a less than 3300mAh battery and the same old Adaptive Fast Charging technology as previous generations. It really looked like Samsung was playing on the safe side to avoid any unforeseen problems. So far it seems to have worked. There was no generalized report of Note 8 that spontaneously set itself on fire, although some users are reporting a strange problem with the device. Users have reported their experience on Samsung's community forums, even uploading a video on YouTube to show exactly what the problem is. It seems that only happens when the battery of the device is completely discharged. Once the 0% mark is reached, the device no longer accepts a charge and can not be switched on, no matter how long it leaves to charge. Samsung seems to be accepting return...

Debate: Huawei Mate 9 vs Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra

Image
In a world of 5-inch displays, there is a class of devices that many would consider too large: 6-inch phablets. But for others, these screen dimensions are the least acceptable for versatility, work and multimedia. Today we will compare two of these big-screen monsters, the Huawei Mate 9 heavyweight and the trendy bolid that is the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra. Both stand out for their generous screens, with the Sony XA1 Ultra being 0.1 inches larger, but will any of us need it? Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra vs. Huawei Mate 9: The Price The most obvious comparison where to start is the price. Both devices belong to very different market segments, and if price is a decisive factor for you, then the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra should sell for around € 400 and will merit the purchase, as we will see later that it is about an excellent smartphone for this price. Huawei Mate 9 versus Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra: What do these two great phablets offer in common? The Huawei Mate 9 has...

Sony Avenger: successor to the XA1 Ultra will have two selfie cameras

Image
It was about a month ago that we broadcast news about a Sony Avenger, caught up in GFXBench, as a  possible successor to the Xperia XA1 Ultra . Almost at the same time came the Sony Xperia H4133 which we take by the successor to the Xperia XA1 base. However, it seems it is now confirmed by government agencies that the Xperia XA2 Ultra will actually be the H4233 model. The confirmation comes through the hands of the certification agencies of Malaysia and Thailand, where the trade name of Xperia XA2 Ultra is clearly visible. Through data previously captured on GFXBench, we know that the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra will have a 6-inch screen with FHD resolution. To be honest,   possible successor to the Xperia XA1 Ultra i only had good things to say on the screen, but with the real possibility that the XA2 Ultra comes with a bezel-less screen, we can have a substantially more compact device. This may or may not be positi...

Sony Avenger: successor to the XA1 Ultra will have two selfie cameras

Image
Sony is traditionally slow to adopt the great fashions in the mobile world, for both the worst and the best. However, it will be one of the first brands to adopt selfie double cameras, namely with the Sony H3213 Avenger. The device has now been detected in the GFXBench and follows the nomenclature of the range XA1, but presents the great novelty of bringing two front chambers to the selfie. Specifically, one of the cameras will have 8MP, while the main one will have 16MP. The main camera, however, will have 23MP. Sony has in the past had some self-focus with powerful front chambers in the Xperia M range. The new mid-range Chinese gadget, however, has bet on the double-chamber formula, with Huawei Mate 10 Lite being the latest example of this trend. There is, however, a novelty that will be more to the liking of Xperia fans, and this will be the unquestionable presence of the modern octa-core Snapdragon 630, a chip appreciated for its performance, and that puts the f...
